First Holy Communion 2014
Congratulations to our 2nd graders who received their First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 10, 2014. “Blessed the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time. May this day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist. Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship. Thank you for their innocence and goodness. May their hands, extend in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament. Amen.”
Benefit for the Children 2014
This year’s Benefit for the Children Dinner, Dance and Auction was yet another success! There was a fantastic turnout, tremendous St. Francis pride and celebration, generous donations and many laughs and cheers were shared. We would like to thank our wonderful planning committee for doing such an amazing job. We would also like to thank all of those that donated generously to both our silent and live auctions and to our St. Francis parents and family who were also very generous in helping this fundraiser be a great success.
St. Francis Annual Walkathon
The annual St. Francis Walkathon was another great success! Our students enjoyed raising funds for our new school security doors while enjoying a morning of activities. Mayor Nicholls was in attendance as well as Yuma Fire Department, Yuma Police Department, Border Patrol, Sheriff’s Department, Cocopah Police Department and a special helicopter touch down. The walkathon is a community tradition in which our students have the opportunity to connect with community leaders and receive education about both safety and health from local responders. It was a special day here at St. Francis!
And congratulations to the Rodgers Family who won the $1000 tuition credit!
Confirmation with Bishop Kicanas
We would like to congratulate our 8th graders who received the sacrament of Confirmation!
Read Across America Day 2014
We grabbed our hats and read with the Cat in the Hat for the 17th annual Read Across America Day. The Seussical celebration kicks off a week of reading across the nation as students, parents and community members gathered together to share their love of reading.
Phoenix Zoomobile visits St. Francis School
The Phoenix Zoomobile brought their safari team to St. Francis today to conduct an outreach program targeting K-12 grades. The theme was safari, and we took a fun adventure through the African rainforest and got to meet Princess the millipede, Isis the lizard, Merlin the hawk and Turbo the box turtle. We learned all about their ecosystems, how important they are to the circle of life and also about conservation efforts. It was a wonderfully entertaining and academic program that our St. Francis students greatly enjoyed. Thank you Phoenix Zoo!
Saint Valentine’s Day at St. Francis School

Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service
National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2014 is January 26 to February 1. Schools typically observe National Catholic Schools Week with Masses, open house and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation.
Bishop Kicanas of the Diocese of Tucson expressed that “One thing that makes Catholic Schools truly special is that God is a part of everyday life at school: students and faculty pray together, parents see their children acquiring values and moral compass, students are learning what it means to be Catholic and how our faith grounds all that we are and all we do. Students, whether Catholic or not, learn that serving others is what makes life worth living. This grounding in faith is at the heart of a school being Catholic”.
